TAUNTON Schools Under-15s beat Yeovil Schools 7-3 at Bucklers Mead Community School in the county cup on Tuesday.

Yeovil started extremely quickly and scored early – a quick counter wasn’t checked and the home side took the lead.

The team gathered themselves and within a few minutes drew level, Rhys Ford freeing himself up after good approach play from Sam Taylor and Sam Bruford, to put the ball firmly past the home keeper.

The second goal followed shortly after. Pepe Bernal Tarda outfoxed his marker to break clear and as he approached the advancing goalkeeper, he put a delightful chip over the top of him and into the net.

Taunton started to get a better balance to their attack and scored a third. After a period of sustained pressure, in the home team’s defensive third Ryan Brereton positioned to fire home a waist- high volley.

Attacking wise the balance was getting better but Taunton still need to improve when out of possession.

Yeovil pulled a goal back after picking the ball up wide on our left, a nicely weighted ball into the box was headed home past goalkeeper Jordan Davies.

However not to be deterred before half time, Ross Edwards got on the ball in midfield to find Ford who again timed his run well. With still a lot to do, he fired a precision strike past the home keeper and into the bottom far corner.

In the second period Taunton were more adept defensively, not just the back line of Toby Morris, Tom Stone, Tom Goodman, Jack Setherton and Sam Brown but the whole team.

This platform gave room for more attacking moments. Tarda was showing a real taste for stretching his marker and the central attacking threat was more aware of exploiting opportunities.

The fifth goal came from a well executed counter. Neat play from defence to midfield found the on-rushing Sam Taylor who received the ball out wide and without hesitation, put it early over the Yeovil keeper.

The next goal came from the penalty spot, after a late challenge. Sam Brown took the responsibility and duly struck it firmly past the keeper.

Yeovil still carrying a threat hit back shortly after. A break through the centre along with some courteous marking allowed the home player to manoeuvre into a striking range which he took advantage of with good precision to hit a third for the home side.

With this acting as a gentle reminder to retain focus throughout, order was resumed and Ford managed to bag a well earned hat-trick before the final whistle.
