TAUNTON Muskets travel to Plymouth Mariners tomorrow (Sunday), after maintaining their unbeaten run this season against St Austell Claycutters last weekend.
Both teams struggled to make an impact with the bat in the opening innings, as some good defensive plays kept the score low on a hot June day.
With the game finely poised at 2-2 in the bottom of the third innings, the Muskets offence finally got going.
Seven runs came over the plate, including a three-run home run for Jamie Pollard, to edge clear.
The game became cagey once more, but just as the game seemed destined to go the full nine innings, the Muskets again broke off the shackles and let loose with the bat.
The bottom of the sixth saw Taunton finally put the game beyond the Claycutters, as some well-hit doubles and a grand slam from Chris Chantrey meant 12 more added to the home side’s tally.
With the score 22-4 to the hosts, the defence held strong to get the three outs needed in the top of the seventh to end the game and extend the Muskets’ unbeaten start to the season.
