Yeovil & District Tennis League
Mixed Doubles Division 4
Queen Camel A 8, Stoke St Gregory 3

STOKE St Gregory played their final match of the summer league season on Monday night, scheduled to be played at Queen Camel A.

Owing to the effect of the heat on the surface of their courts, the teams agreed to switch the venue, so the match was played at Stoke.

For this last match Clare Graydon and Nick Butling played together, with Kathy Davidson pairing up with Stuart Mark.

Davidson and Mark lost their first set 6-2, and although the second set was more keenly contested, Stoke still lost out, 6-4.

Graydon and Butling’s rubber was a much closer contest, as they won the first set 7-5, lost the second 7-5, before going on to play a deciding tiebreak.

QC took an early lead in the tiebreak and just managed to hang on.

In the reverse rubbers, Graydon and Butling finished their sets in very quick fashion, winning 6-0, 6-2.

That left Davidson and Mark to play out their rubber, trying desperately to keep the tall and powerful Jack from intercepting shots at the net, Davidson having some success with angled cross court shots.

However, despite many deuces, Stoke eventually lost 6-3, 6-1 – the rubber being much closer than the score suggests.

So the result was six sets to QC and three to Stoke, with QC gaining eight points to Stoke’s three.

Stoke are now left to wait for all teams to complete their remaining league games, to see what their final league position shall be.
