Wellington 1st XV 38-31 Teignmouth 1st XV

When these sides met in early September they produced a highly entertaining spectacle on a warm sunny day, the weather this time was much much colder but the result was the same, an eleven try bonanza, with The Chiefs once again taking the spoils.

Following the weeks tragic local news the game was preceded by a minute’s silence, WRFC send sincere condolences to Lloyds family & our friends at Wellington FC.

Playing towards the clubhouse in the first half The Chiefs looked to get on the score board early but the game remained scoreless after 20mins as the two very evenly matched teams went vigorously at each other.

The Chiefs broke the deadlock when Vinny Gordan powered over for a try after a prolonged period of pressure on Teignmouths line, Alex Davey added the extras.

This score spurned The Chiefs onto bigger & better performance for the rest of the half going to dominate proceedings via excellent tries from George Hodgson and Gordon both of which were converted by Davey to extend the lead to 21 points.

Despite being down a player for the first ten minutes of the half The Chiefs remained in control for 25 mins of the half, Gordan crossed for his hat trick of tries which was converted by Davey. Teignmouth replied with a converted try of the own to reduce the arrears before Ryan Marke & Jack Richards went over for The Chiefs fifth and sixth tries of the match, both went unconverted. At 38-12 and with 15mins remaining the visitors refused to concede the game was lost at this point came storming back scoring three more tries, the last with the final play of the game, two were converted to make the final score 38-31 to The Chiefs.

This result backed up last weeks victory for The Chiefs against a competitive Teignmouth side. Winger Ash Harney was a thorne in the Devon’s side all afternoon, fellow winger Gordon also looked sharp taking his hat trick of tries really well, Charlie Snow again caught the eye at outside half whilst up front up Toby Redwood and Jack Richards had fine games.

Squad: Richards, Redwood, Price(O), Hancock, Machin, Phillips, Howe, Kitto, Brewer, Snow, Harney, Lee(cpt), Hodgson, Gordon, Davey, Price(B), Marke, Keyte
