National One Rugby: Plymouth Albion 54-29 Taunton Titans

ON a hot sunny afternoon requiring players water breaks, a 1,200 plus crowd were treated to a 12 try-fest with the hosts coming out on top, writes Hugh Duder.

Taunton were first to score four minutes into the game after a penalty into the corner followed by a catch and drive put Isaac Dalton over with Dart adding the extras.

A Taunton error resulted in a Plymouth response and the score was 5-7.

On 15 minutes a stolen lineout gave Albion a second try and a 12-7 lead and with 23 minutes gone Titans were denied a score for going over the top.

A third try for Plymouth on 30 minutes followed by a penalty by Frankie Dart and the score was 19-10.

The last play of the half Plymouth got their bonus point try to lead 26-10 at the break.

Five minutes into the second half and Albion went further ahead scoring out wide to extend their lead to 33-10.

Almost immediately they were in again from an individual try and perhaps the try of the match for Peter Pitaratukadreu. Albion were up 40-10.

The hosts were reduced to 14 when Taunton scored through Alec Rodd on 63 minutes to make it 47-17.

A water break followed as did Plymouth’s try number eight and it was 54-17.

Not to be out done Taunton then gave themselves a chance of a try bonus point when centre Toby Clinch scored with two minutes remaining.

And it happened with the last play of the game as the ball was fed out wide to left wing Noah Fenton who sprinted through two Albion defenders to score the bonus point try and sent Taunton home with a deserved reward against a good physical side.

Next up Richmond come to Veritas Park on Saturday, September 16.
