Taunton A got their Somerset County League Premier Division season off to a good start, defeating Banwell by 60-44 shots to earn 11 points.

In a rink triples match curtailed by rain, Taunton Ladies beat Eastover 32-19.

Playing Exonia at Exeter in a four-rink mixed matc,h Taunton won by 79-65.

In the Bowls England National Two Fours Competition at Westlands Sports, Yeovil, Taunton B won on both rinks by five shots.

Against Donyatt in the National Top Club Competition, Taunton won the match winning the singles, pairs, triples and fours games.

Minehead men were defeated in their second round home match of the Top Club competition against Ilminster, winning just the triples.

In the West Country League, Taunton Deane Jaguars slipped up after their fine start to the season, going down by 22 shots to South Ham Vixens.

Taunton Deane ladies got their season off to a fine start to the season, winning both matches against Williton and Wellington.

In the Top Club competition, Deane Ladies lost to Ilminster by two shots despite an emphatic win in the pairs by Kirsty Hembrow and Jeanette Hocking.

TAUNTON Deane are holding bowls open days this Saturday (9am-4pm) and Sunday (10am- 1pm). Anyone, regardless of experience, is welcome to attend and there will be qualified coaches on hand.

Deane is a modern, purpose-built bowling centre with free parking. There are six indoor rinks, eight outdoor rinks, while club facilities include restaurant, bar and social activities.

WATCHET Ladies could not come to terms with Porlock’s green last Tuesday and lost their match by four shots, 48-44.

On Sunday in the National Double Rink competition, Watchet B were drawn away to Yeovil A. In a match that was interrupted by torrential rain, Watchet, who included their three teenagers in their side, gave a good account of themselves going down by only six shots, one of the rinks dropping a six on the last end.

In the County League on Saturday, Williton hosted Taunton B and picked up maximum points by winning on all rinks and by 33 shots, 75-42.
