WATCHET Bowls Club Ladies are one step away from emulating Watchet Men.

The ladies have reached the final of the Fear Plate, the equivalent of The Wedmore Plate.

The ladies played Knowle, Bristol in the the semi-final at Street on Friday and, as in the quarter-final, they started slowly and were a few shots down after four ends. The ladies then pulled their game together and started to catch up. They promptly over took Knowle and went on to win by 26 shots.

Watchet will play Bath in the final at Purnells, Paulton on Sunday.

Watchet A travelled to Vivary Park Taunton to play their A side on Saturday and put in another poor show as they headed picked up just two points.

Watchet B didn’t perform any better against Minehead B at Minehead. Both Clubs were in contention for promotion going into the game and Minehead are now assured of it, while Watchet must gain Maximum points in their last game on Saturday.

On Sunday, Watchet held the West Somerset Triples Tournament. This tournament is going to be run in turn by the four West Somerset Clubs.

There was some good bowling on a good even green. The hosts took advantage of their knowledge of the green as they won the Club Shield and three Watchet teams made up the top three.

Glenys Martin, Sid Slade, and skip Rod Somerfield took first place, beating Janet Groves, Neil Chidgey, and skip John Hooper into second and Helen McDermaid, Andrew Rendell and Stephen Hooper into third.

l WILLITON Ladies were hosts to North Petherton Ladies on Wednesday, winning only one rink but overall by the narrow margin of two shots, 45-43.

Williton travelled to Westland Sports for their final County League match on Saturday but only picked up two points, losing overall by 27 shots, 44-71.
