THE Taunton Volkswagen Saturday League suffered further disruption this weekend when three games were postponed because of a hard overnight frost.

With Porlock’s game at Dulverton postponed it gave Middlezoy Rovers a chance to close the gap on the leaders. Things didn’t look good for them though as Staplegrove raced into a 2-0 lead through Peter Horton and Adam Smith but Middlezoy got their act together just as Staplegrove lost theirs and they were level by half time.

Darren Cann got both the Rovers goals, one a right foot lob and the other a header. He then notched a perfect hat trick with a left footed finish and as ‘grove pushed hard for the equaliser Steve Hall got a fourth Middlezoy goal.

Locomotives had a 4-2 win at Priorswood over Highbridge Town, who seem to have lost their championship form from last year. Ryan Vickery scored two for the Taunton side while James Weaver and Sam Hislop added one each and Richard Cattell and Matt Scott replied for Town. Division 2 leaders Civil Service dropped two points at home to Appletree in their 1-1 draw. Player manager Robbie Allan scored Service’s goal while Paul Lawrence replied for the away side.

Nether Stowey and Minehead Reserves also shared the points in their 2-2 draw. Lee Todd got both for Minehead and Ben Enever and Kevin Ware scored for Stowey. There was another close encounter in the mud at Manor Road as Staplegrove Reserves hosted Wyvern Rangers. Honours were even at the interval but ‘grove broke the deadlock with a Liam Leavy goal and their lead was doubled mid way through the second half when Robbie Conway converted from the penalty spot on his debut to give his side a 2-0 win.

Wembdon Saints stayed top of Division 3 with a 3-2 win at Porlock Reserves. Porlock had jumped into a two goal lead through Rich Binding and Adam Collard goals but a Jake Collard brace took Saints level and Jason Hitchcock got the winner.

Middlezoy Rovers Reserves stay second after their 3-1 win at Williton. Aaron James, Craig Lazenby and Liam Moore all scored for Rovers while Nathan Sheehan got Williton’s goal. Highbridge Town Reserves picked up their third win of the season in style with a 5-0 victory over Old Inn Allstars. Veteran Kev Watts netted twice and Simon Fouracre, James Osgood and Alex Taylor scored once each. Wembdon dominated possession in the first half of their game with Norton Fitzwarren but were unable to convert any of their chances. The second half, however, was a different matter with Ben Cheffey converting three chances and Simon Lukins one to give Wembdon a 4-0 win.

Hamilton Hawks maintained their 100 per cent record in Division 4 with a 14-0 win over Nether Stowey Reserves. Three Hawks, Mike Clark, Wayne Cook and Andy Clark, got hat tricks and Andy Lawton chipped in with two goals while Josh Parker, Rob Chambers and George Lee also added to the scoresheet.

With Bishops Lydeard Colts not in action Alcombe Rovers Reserves closed the gap on the leaders with a 4-0 win over Milverton Rangers. Zac Brown, Ryan Wilkins, Daniel James and Matthew Lawrence scored the goals.

Westonzoyland Reserves and Dulverton Town Reserves shared the points in a 3-3 draw as Gary Ziabeck netted twice for ‘zoyland and Ash Clapp once, while James Kelland got all three for Town.

Division 5 leaders Blagdon Hill had a 6-0 win at Wembdon Saints Reserves. Scott Seldon scored twice but fluffed his lines from the spot and missed out on a hat trick as a result. Matt Francis, James Bryce, James Walpole and Darren Evans added the other goals.

Gallery are level on points with Blagdon but have played four games more after their 3-1 win at Sampford Blues Reserves. Craig Thomas, Tim Young and Rob Rowley all got a goal for the Bridgwater side while Tom Jordan scored for Blues.

Merry Monk stayed in the title hunt by thrashing Galmington Dragons 7-0. Ryan Bradford got a hat trick, George Dowse-Brenan added two and Chris Andrews and Dan Pepperell scored a goal each.

Tone Youth and Halcon United played out a rare goalless draw at a muddy Hamilton Road.
