Taunton Town Ladies have won 'best women's club of the season' from the Somerset FA.

The award was presented to the club at the end of season awards evening held at Somerset Cricket club.

Aaron Clements, the girls and women’s development officer for the FA, said: “Taunton, the first winners of this award, had to literally start again from scratch this last season.

“Having lost not only a large number of players, their experienced club secretary and also their home pitch due to a fire at the club, they found themselves in a very difficult situation.

“The didn’t knowing if they could even start the season, let alone make it through.

“Despite all the setbacks and although results did not go their way, the club remained positive throughout.

“And since pre-season last year they have not stopped fundraising, carried out numerous recruitment drives and have worked tirelessly to raise the profile of their club as a whole.

“This has resulted in them being awarded FA Charter Standard status this season and the club are now in a position to be able to focus on growing the female side, having recently set up a development centre for young players to come along to the club and take part in football.”

The award was presented to manager Rebecca Farthing and secretary and captain Kelly Saffin.

BISHOPS Lydeard AFC are holding their annual player recruitment day on Saturday.

They are inviting boys and girls in Reception and Year 1, and girls in years 3, 4, 5 and 6, to their free fun session to be held at Bishops Lydeard Football Club from 9.30am to 11am. For more information call Julie Bowker on 07813-158316.
