SAINTS were involved in a thrilling game at Weston on Saturday.

After being asked to bat, they found themselves 23-3, and veteran Brian Hoyle (70no) and Tom Poole (35) played sensibly in a 57-run stand.

After a careless run out left Poole stranded, a pair of 20-run partnerships with Phil Parsons, and James Brice took Saints toward 150, however after both fell.

Josh Clatwothy (27) injected some energy in the innings and Saints ended 185 all out with one over remaining, Hoyle carrying his bat throughout the innings.

Weston got off to a flyer, and it was the introduction of Dave Reading (2-26) who claimed the breakthrough. Then, when Nick Eggbeer (4-41) found some rhythm, Saints sniffed they would have a chance.

However, a crucial partnership between Logan (24) and Morgan (40) took Weston within 55 with six wickets remaining and in control.

Eggbeer had other plans, claiming wickets in consective balls, and, at 153-8, the game was evenly poised.

Danger man Morgan was still at the crease, though, as he took Weston to 183, however a careless shot saw him bowled by Brice (2-14) and after some scratching round, Weston needed just two off the last over.

One run came and, after two dots from Brice, Weston panicked, the number 11 hit the ball direct to Josh Clatworthy, who held his nerve to run out the last man, and ensure a tie in a thrilling game and be named Somerset County Sports man of the match.
