NORTH Curry 1sts lost their top-of-the-table clash in Division One of the Best Western Shrubbery Hotel Somerset Cricket League on Saturday with North Petherton 1sts.

Curry batted first and were bowled out for just 117 with tail-ender S. Powell top scoring with 23.

M. Bulbeck claimed five wickets in reply, but it was all in vain as Petherton, led by O. Irish with 43, reached the winning post with four wickets in hand.

Watchet 1sts lost by 39 runs to Wells 1sts in Division Two. Wells were bowled out for 197, but Watchet struggled to 158-9 with M. Ketchen hitting 46.

Huish and Langport 1sts beat Bridgwater A by 19 runs.

Wellington 2nds lost their Division Three match with Burnham-on-Sea by seven wickets.

It was their first defeat since June when they went down by seven wickets at Burnham and stay fourth as a result with three to play.

Choosing to bat on winning the toss, the Red and Blacks struggled against a good home attack and Green, with 3-29 in 10.1 overs, was at the head of this effort.

Mark Salter, with 15, was set before he was run out and other players got started – Mark Saunders with 29, Arron Campbell 16, Max Capaldi 29 and Trevor Brooks 23 made good runs for Wellington.

Top scorer on the day was Ian Hewson with 32no and this was a fine effort from number 9.

Wellington did not field as well as they could and this did not aid their efforts against the side sitting third.

Jake Nichol again bowled an excellent spell of medium pace and took 2-52 in 12 overs, but Wellington went down with 7.2 overs left and collected just 11 points.

They are home to bottom side South Petherton on Saturday.

Staplegrove 2nds suffered a six-wicket Division Four defeat against Frome 2nds. Grove were bowled out for 140 with J. Cross top scoring with 35, before Frome reached the target with plenty to spare.

A fine knock of 91 by R. Bellringer helped Fitzhead 1sts to a six-wicket win over Cranmore 1sts. Cranmore were bowled out for 196 with N. Mullins taking four wickets, before Bellringer inspired Fitzhead to victory.

Taunton A suffered a 132-run defeat against Baltonsborough in Division Five. J. Barron was in fine form for Baltonsborough with 134 as they amassed 244-9. Barron’s knock was more than Taunton’s total as they were all out for 112 with H. Willett hitting 38.

Huish and Langport 2nds suffered a heavy defeat against Trull 1sts. Their opponents hit 212-6, but H&L were then dismissed for just 126 in reply.

Stars of the show for Trull were W. Parsons with 64no and O. Barrett with 50.

Taunton Deane Cavaliers enjoyed a 63-run win over Ilminster A in Division Six. The Cavaliers made 146 with Dave Stephenson top scoring with 35. Four wickets apiece for Steve Giles and Chip Chedzoy saw Ilminster all out for 83.

Taunton St Andrew’s A crashed to a big defeat against Banwell and Churchill. Their opponents piled on the runs to amass 251-7 before the Saints had a batting disaster with only S. Hockey and N. Crossing reaching double figures as they were dismissed for just 61.

Watchet 2nds suffered a four-wicket defeat against Wells 2nds in Division Seven, while Uphill Castle Cavaliers dished out a 99-run win over Huish and Langport 3rds in Division Eight North.

Taunton Deane Crusaders cruised to an eight-wicket victory over Taunton St Andrew’s B in Division Eight South.

Batting first, the Saints could only muster 143-8 in their 45 overs.

John Ponte claimed four wickets and Jack Burgess three.

In reply, the Deane were always in control and reached the winning line with 11 overs and eight wickets to spare. Tom Burgess led the way with 70.

D. Teagle was in inspired form with the ball for Trull 2nds in their 16-run win over Bridgwater Sports 1sts.

Trull amassed 210-6 in their innings with J. Purvis hitting 56 and L. Bartlett 48.

Teagle then claimed 7-60 as Sports were dismissed for 194.

l WELLINGTON Sunday XI tied their non-league match with WEPL Premier 1 side Taunton St Andrew’s last weekend, but they should have won it having needed 32 to win with seven wickets in hand at the 28 over stage.

The Saints won the toss and batted first and saw George Hooper take a wicket with the third ball of the game, but through Wyatt with 41 and Regan with 59 they scored at a fast rate, but lost wickets throughout.

Macaulay Campbell produced a fine delivery to get rid of overseas player Avendano and the dual spin attack of Rob Moysey and Paul Short reaped rewards for Wellington mid innings.

With Alex Sparks and Charlie Davies also been successful with the ball Wellington needed 253 to win after tea; L. Poole with 53 and T. Poole with 37 made good late runs for Saints.

Wellington started like a freight train as Luke Desave made a powerful 42 in no time and Ollie Wilkins crafted a great knock of 56.

When Alex Sparks with 68 and Charlie Davies with 37 added to it Wellington were in the ascendancy, but the loss of seven wickets for 25 runs saw the game end in a tie as former Wellington player Martin Jenkins did a fine job for Saints as he took 4-10 in six overs.

The game finished with both sides on 252.
