PAUL Short was re-elected captain of Wellington’s 1st XI at the club AGM.

His vice-captain will be Mark Salter, while Richard Henwood will, once again, skipper the 2nd XI. Wellington’s 1st XI play in Division One of the Somerset League, while the 2nds compete in Division One of the 2nd XI competition.

The meeting heard that, for the fifth successive season, an overseas player will be joining the club. He will be Rowan Varkevisser, an 18-year-old South African fast bowler and lower middle order batsman.

MATT Golding and Richard Parsons picked up the two main league awards at North Curry’s AGM and presentation dinner at the Bird in Hand.

Golding picked up the batting and players’ player awards, while Parsons won the bowling prize for the Somerset League Division Three club.

They received their trophies from former Somerset and England fast bowler Richard Johnson, who was guest of honour.

The meeting heard the club’s new ground and pavilion have now been completed and the new square is due to be put into place in the autumn.

WEST Monkton are looking for new recruits – young and old – for the new season.
