GALMINGTON were back at the Vale to take on Team Bath in Regional League One and secured a handsome 61-40 victory.

It was high quality end-to-end first quarter as the lead changed hands several times before the first interval arrived with Galmington ahead 14-13.

However, with Helen Jones dominating the defence circle, Galmington managed to restrict the Bath shooters in the next period, allowing wing defence Emma McCormack to move the ball swiftly down court to set up attack after attack.

With goal attack Sam Newton causing havoc in the Bath defence with her movement and passing, Galmington were able to open up a 27-20 half-time lead.

There was still plenty to do but Galmington were in superb form in all areas of the court playing their best netball of the season and they quickly doubled their lead scoring the first seven goals of the third quarter.

They dominated the period to extend their lead to 44-27 and stayed in control for the remainder of the match for a magnificent success.

In Division Two, Trident got off to a poor start against Swindon’s Pinehurst, losing goalkeeper Sharon Chester to an injury after only a few minutes and finding themselves 18-8 adrift after the first quarter.

Matters did not improve at the start of the second period as they fell further behind 23-9 before a five-goal rally gave them renewed hope.

Unfortunately Pinehurst were in rampant mood and, making full use of the height of their shooters, they pulled away again to open up a 32-16 half-time lead.

Undeterred, Trident regrouped and, with wing defence Steph Andrews constantly picking up interceptions and Kirsty Mitchell getting the better of Pinehurst’s superb goal attack, Trident more than matched their opponents in the final two quarters.

Although they were eventually beaten 55-41, they can take great encouragement from a fine second half performance.

Hovelands and Parkfield met in a Somerset League Knock Out Cup match and unsurprisingly it was Premier Division Hovelands who came out on top.

With Parkfield’s goalkeeper Abbie Barker taking numerous interceptions it was not all plain sailing for Hovelands. But with Zoe Robinson again in fine form, they progressed to the next round with a 60-35 win.

The only Somerset League match was also an interclub affair with Newbarn taking on Comeytrowe in Division Three.

Newbarn were the stronger in the first half with Hannah Lenthall controlling the mid-court as they built a 29-13 lead.

To their credit, Comeytrowe refused to be overawed and responded well in the second half with Natasha Snow again impressive but Newbarn still took the points, winning 48-30.
