TAUNTON Soul celebrated ten years of the the game in Taunton with a pre-season fun tournament for old and new players alike.

It was followed by a party organised by the founder of the club, Stuart Allcock.

Taunton Soul 1 then started the new season with a good 13-7 win over a talented Exeter side.

Angela Hill scored the first goal within five seconds of the game starting to give the team a lead they would rarely lose with goals from Gabriel Carrillo (5) and Matt Fillary (3) keeping Exeter at bay during the remainder of the match.

Hilary Manning also scored three goals including a penalty.

David Hill and Ruth White were voted the players of the match for Taunton.

The second team didn’t start as well after such a long summer break but warmed to the task and fought back from 5-2 and 6-4 down with goals from Rachael Holden, Stuart Allcock, Mark Pow and Chris Phillips to draw 6-6.

Chris (tw0 goals) and Sheena Lewis won the awards of MVP.

Taunton Soul 1 followed up their winning start with a 16-11 victory over Horfield 2 at the City Academy in Bristol with notable goal scorers Matt Fillary (3), Hilary Manning (4) and Gabriel Carrillo (6).

Taunton Soul 2 won 11-8 over Horfield 3 with Ben Groves (2) and Ellie Kowalski (2) being voted the most valuable players for the second team.

Due to a successful campaign to attract new members to play korfball this season the club has been able to start a third team playing friendly matches. Their first match was away to Exeter University and they won 10-2. All players played very well and gave 100% effort. Goal scorers were Meg Collins (5), Jess Robertson (2), Andy Mackerness, Stephen Penny and Ellie Courtney.
