ENGLAND hockey star Tom Carson visited King’s College to deliver coaching sessions to several of the girls' school hockey squads.

Carson, who hails from Wellington and attended Exeter University, made his England debut in 2013.

He won bronze in World League in 2014 and took part in the World Cup in Holland later that year. To date he has won 65 England/GB Caps and netted18 goals for his country.

One of the groups he coached were the Under 14 girls who recently represented Somerset in the regional round of the National Schools Competition having been crowned County Champions.

At the regionals, the girls won their pool with wins over Clifton, John Masefield and Exeter.

In the quarter-finals they met Bristol Grammar School who they beat after a close encounter, then came up against Canford in the semi- final but sadly could not beat them and ended up third in the regionals.

Carson also coached a group of girls from both the fourth and fifth form.

Clare Hayes the head of hockey at King’s said: “It was great to have a player of Tom’s quality here to work with the girls and he certainly put them all through their goal scoring paces."

“The girls worked really hard and learned some new techniques that they can incorporate into their own games going forward.”
