Galmington made the long trip to Dorset to play unbeaten Poole, who were already certain of being crowned champions.

Galmington made a positive start to lead early in the game but Poole soon showed their prowess to go 9-5 ahead.

Galmington then came back strongly and took the lead again to finish a high-scoring first quarter 17-16 in front.

The second period was very evenly contested as the lead changed hands regularly before Poole had the better of the closing stages to reach half-time 30-27 ahead.

Galmington were playing some of their best netball of the season and, with Kirsty Mitchell excellent at goal defence, they matched the league leaders and re-took the lead towards the end of the quarter, only for Poole to score twice to go into the last period leading 41-40.

Looking to cause a major shock, Galmington stayed within one goal of Poole before the home side scored seven goals without reply as former England shooter Tracey Bartram found her range.

Still Galmington came back as they reduced the deficit to five goals, but Poole resisted the pressure to take the match 58-51.

Trident also faced a difficult match as they travelled to Division Two leaders Almondsbury. Both defences were on top in the first quarter which ended with Almondsbury 10-7 ahead. There was nothing to choose between the sides in an even second period although Trident were still 21-18 behind at half-time. With mother and daughter Sharon and Jaz Chester combining brilliantly in defence to restrict the home team’s scoring opportunities, Trident closed the gap in the third quarter and went into the final period just 30-29 adrift, with every chance of causing an upset. Unfortunately it was not to be as Almondsbury pulled away to win 44-36 which was harsh on the Trident team who can take much credit from a superb team performance.

In the Somerset Premier Division, Hovelands entertained Paulton’s Tomahawks at the Vale and took control from the outset to build an 18-8 first quarter lead, which they extended to 33-20 at half-time.

With Caitlin Evans outstanding at wing attack, Hovelands continued to dominate the match and were comfortable 60-40 winners.

Claremont were up against Premier Division leaders Millfield and only trailed by a single goal at the first break.

They were playing excellent netball and, although Millfield increased their lead to 20-16 at half-time, Claremont, for whom Gina Sayer was in fine shooting form, were still very much in the match.

Claremont reduced the arrears further in the third period and pushed the leaders hard, but Millfield went on to take the match 41-32.

In Division One, Parkfield were in Wells to play promotion chasing Swans and found themselves 10-4 down after the first quarter.

Swans pulled further ahead before Parkfield worked their way back into the game and were only 19-14 behind at half-time. With both Charlotte Hooper-Bleeks and Ffion Watkins particularly impressive, Parkfield then drew level at 20-20 as Swans began to lose their shape in a feisty match but the home side were back in front, 26-25, at the end of the third period.

Both sides gave everything in the last quarter but it took a Swans goal in the dying seconds to level the score at 37-37.

Newbarn travelled to play Sydenham’s Emeralds in Division Three and were quickly on top building a 26-14 first half lead with Emily Warner excellent in defence. The second half was more evenly contested but Newbarn were always in control and ran out 45-28 winners.

Comeytrowe produced an outstanding performance against Division Four opponents Thorns of Glastonbury dominating the match for a comprehensive 58-12 victory.
