LOCAL punters look set for another exciting afternoon of racing action when the Orchard Portman course hosts a seven-race card on Thursday, the first of which gets going on the good ground at 2pm, writes Richard Walsh.

With 59 horses declared and a good spread in each race, all the leading trainers including Paul Nicholls, David Pipe and Jonjo O’Neill have runners while leading jockeys Sam Twiston-Davies, Tom Scudamore and Paddy Brenan are all booked to ride.

The feature race of the day is the South West Racing Club Chase (Novices’ Limited Handicap), a Class 3 event over two miles seven furlongs which is worth £8,229 to the winning owner.

Fort Worth under three pound claimer Killian Moore is expected to be well fancied in the big race, while those looking for an each way chance might want to check out Huff and Puff under Liam Tredwell for Venetia Williams.

A courtesy coach picks up racegoers from Taunton Railway Station two hours before the first race and returns 30 minutes after the start of the last.
