Somerset Knock Out Cup prelim. round
Taunton Tone 48, Sydenham Sapphires 42

TONE hosted Sydenham’s Sapphires in the Knock Out Cup at the weekend, winning 48-42 after an exciting and well-contested game.

The game started off evenly, and despite some lovely play and turnovers from Tone, they trailed 12-10 at the end of the first quarter.

By turning over Sapphires’ centre passes and overheads into their tall goal shooter, the hosts linked together fantastically, and went into half time leading 24-20.

A high-scoring third quarter from both teams saw Tone increase their lead to 39-32, having dealt with some Sapphires team changes.

Tone kept their heads in an intense final quarter, despite Sapphires pulling it back to within one goal, to remain in the cup.

They will face club-mates Monmouth in the next round, on January 20, 2018.
