ROLLER derby team South West Angels of Terror (SWAT) beat Bath Spartans Roller Derby 240-128 during their first Tier 2 game within the British Championships games this weekend.

Playing at WISE Campus in Bristol, the two leagues were on fine form as they battled it out.

The purple-clad SWAT team took an early lead, with captain Sarah Clarke Paterson blazing a six-point first jam.

Jammers and blockers from both teams were sent to the penalty box, but that didn’t deter SWAT as the points continued in their favour, leading 131-77 at half time.

The second half was closely-fought, as Bath put on the pressure, but with excellent jamming and blocking from both teams they were unable to take the lead from SWAT, who kept racking up the points.

Co-captain Orla Fitzpatrick said: “Bath played a very strong game and made an impressive start to their first game in the Tier 2 season.

“We are very happy with how we played and are excited to see how the rest of the season plays out, after this promising first game.”
SWAT, who train three times per week across three venues (Taunton, Exeter and Cullompton), next play Royal Windsor Roller Girls in Windsor on April 15.
