IMPROVING Wellington recorded their third successive league draw as they drew 3-3 at home to high-riding Shepton Mallet at the Playing Field yesterday.

But they will have been disappointed not to have earned their first win under new manager Jamie Ward as they conceded two goals in the last ten minutes of this Toolstation league, division one encounter.

Shepton took the lead thanks to a huge slice of luck after 19 minutes when a speculative cross from the right by Adam Garlick sailed over keeper Sam Williamson and into the net.

After a shaky start, Wellington improved and equalised four minutes later when Kyle Bassett found striker partner Corey Lewis, who marked his debut by cutting inside and scoring with a low shot.

Although both sides had their chances, it was Wellington who took control of the game with two quickfire strikes after the break.

Midfielder Andy Butler gave them the lead after 65 minutes with his first goal since re-joining the club – a dipping volley which keeper Courtney Redwood could only help into the net.

And shortly afterwards it was 3-1 as the excellent Bassett fed Darren Rice out on the left and his low cross found Lewis, who scored at the second attempt.

Shepton refused to lie down and pulled a goal back with ten minutes remaining when a free-kick into the box was knocked down for Jon French to net.

And they completed their fightback three minutes later after they were awarded a free-kick 20 yards out which substitute Danny Collins blasted into the top corner.

Wellington: Sam Williamson, Nicky Ford, Scott Holland, Ed Weeks, Tom Ellis, Max Westlake, Tom Hopkins, Andy Butler, Darren Rice, Kyle Bassett, Corey Lewis. Substitutes: Luke Redrup and Leon Taswell (used); Jamie Dingle and Joe Holmes (not used). Match sponsor: AIS. Attendance: 55.
