7:00pm Saturday 25th January 2014 in Sport
A LARGE field of 90 golfers took part in the January Medal for the Hangover Trophy at Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club.
The overall medal winner was Mike Robinson. He also won division one with 64 but only after countback put him ahead of Ian Clare while Stuart Parkinson was third with 65.
Doug Sharp with 67 claimed the honours in the division two, but there was keen competition for the places after three players returned with 69.
Following countback it was Clive Hardy who was second, Rob Allen third and Mark Ramsden fourth.
The division three winner was Peter Layzell with 65, three ahead of Colin Gudge with 68 while Peter Cooke was third on 69.
On Tuesday there was a good turn-out for the ladies’ Stableford that was played in good conditions on a full course.
At the end of an enjoyable round it was Ali McGowan with 35 points who was the winner in the Silver Division, one ahead of Mary Guy.
Vice-captain Jill Paul edged into third spot on countback ahead of Linda Lynch after both scored 33 points.
In the Bronze Division it was Elizabeth Davies who took the honours with 31.
Three players carded 29 points and after countback it was Sue Walsh who was second, Jenny Bevan third and Sheila Beresford fourth. Angela Hollis was fifth with 28 points on countback from Chrys Maltby.
Last week’s 18-hole Foursomes Stableford was won by Lennox Heath and Marion Beranek with 36 points.
Linda Lynch and Heather Crump were second with 35 points, Louise Worth and Rosie Spragg third with 34, while fourth place went to Carolyn Stait and Jill Paul who scored 32.
There were no 2s so the ladies’ captain’s charity, the Maxillofacial Unit at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, which Shirley Hartley the current captain has been supporting since last March and has raised almost £2,000, has benefitted to the tune of £17.
