Westbury 3, Bishops Lydeard 0

BISHOPS Lydeard travelled to Westbury on Saturday and were soundly beaten by the hosts.

Lydeard were slow out of the blocks, and seemed somewhat subdued overall, individual battles were lost.

It wasn’t long before they were 1-0 down after sloppy defending enabled a Westbury striker to fire home from 20 yards.

The Bishops attempted to lift their game but to no avail, and another defensive blunder added another to Westbury’s total, the score remaining 2-0 at half-time.

Stern words were had at half-time and there was a little improvement in the second half.

However, this was short-lived when, with 20 minutes to go, poor positioning enabled a Westbury striker to get behind Lydeard’s defence to put the game beyond doubt.

There was little to write home about, apart from a gutsy performance from Lydeard’s youngest player, Ryan Brereton.

Already playing for Somerset and an English College trialist, he put in a performance to be proud of, and was Lydeard’s best player.

Man of the match: Ryan Brereton.

Lydeard: Nathan Whatley, Andy Butler, George Painter, Mark Cornish, Charlie Wilson, Pat Sherwood, Ryan Andrews, Joe Chamberlain, Ryan Brereton, Scott Holland, Jake Quick, Tom Stone, Ben Hebditch.

  • On Saturday, Lydeard will be looking to get back on the points trail when they entertain Portishead Town (ko 3pm).
