POLICE have been called out to reports of people ignoring a temporary road closure.

Officer from Street were sent to the village of Meare, near Glastonbury, this morning (Tuesday, February 14) following complaints from members of the public.

The B3151 St Mary's Road in Meare was closed on Monday to enable Wessex Water to carry out flood prevention work. It is likely to reopen once the work is completed on Friday.

A spokesperson for Mendip Neighbourhood Policing said: "Street beat team were out in the village of Meare this morning due to reports that members of the public have been ignoring road closures.

"The road is closed due to Wessex Water doing sewage works.

"Any complaints should be directed towards Wessex Water, but we would ask motorists to obey the closure for obvious safety reasons."
