POLICE are investigating a 'deliberate' property fire in North Petherton.

At around 10.10am yesterday morning (March 14, 2023), Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service responded to reports of a fire in a two story semi-detached property. 

One woman was believed to have been inside.

Taunton and Bridgwater stations both responded to the emergency, with a further fire engine from Wellington station mobilised.

Crews were able to rescue the woman from the first-floor bedroom fire. She was later sent to hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation.

The fire was ruled as "deliberate" by the fire service.

A spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police Force has said: "We were called by Devon and Somerset Fire Service to a fire at a building in Bridgwater Road, North Petherton, at about 10.20am this morning (Tuesday, March 14).

"The ambulance service also attended and one person was taken to hospital.

"An investigation into suspected criminal damage is underway."
