A CYCLIST has been taken to hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in a collision with a car this morning (Thursday, September 7).

Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening or life changing, according to police.

Emergency services were called to the incident on the A39 at Washford Cross, near Watchet, at around 6.15am.

The car driver had left the scene before police arrived.

The road was closed for a period but has since re-opened.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "We were called at around 6.15am today (Thursday 7 September) to the A39 Washford Cross, near Watchet, following reports of a collision between a car and a cyclist.

"The cyclist has been taken to hospital with injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

"The driver had left the scene before police arrived.

"The road was closed while emergency services attended and has now been re-opened.

"Officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw the collision, have any relevant footage, or any information about the car.
