THE ‘best tapas restaurant in Taunton’ is set to return with pop-up nights after last year’s closure.

Nobregas, which used to be based on Bath Place in Taunton town centre, announced it will reopen next month with pop-up nights.

Sofia Nobriga-Rodrigues, who used to run Nobregas with her partner Pedro, and Telma, said the tapas restaurant nights will take place at the Corner Club, a brunch parlour they also run.

She said: “We closed Nobregas on September 30 last year due to continued issues with costs such as, electricity quadrupling, Brexit flaring up import costs of our overseas products, and the general difficulties in running a business.

“Our tenancy contract was ending, which coincided with the difficult decision to close.

“Nobregas wasn’t just a restaurant for us, it was part of our identity, our family history, and our hearts were poured into everything we did and loved.

“We are re-opening pop-up nights at the Corner Club, which we also run as a brunch parlour.

“This made sense to us as we have the evening available and licensing to do so.

“Me, my partner Pedro, and Telma are super excited to bring back what we believe is the best tapas restaurant in Taunton, from springtime.

“Our opening date is yet to be announced but is likely to be in April.”

Nobregas is a family run Portuguese and Spanish tapas and paella restaurant located in a historic listed building that for many years housed the Dragon Bookshop.

Sofia and her team also run Skewer House on Bridge Street in Taunton.
